Men learn a lot of things when they’re growing up but talking about how they feel isn’t one of them. It’s not surprising that 1 in 3 men say they regularly experience loneliness. Or that suicide remains the biggest killer of men under 45.
Whilst words are often hard to find, numbers are a language that they understand. Numbers help men quantify the world around them, and for men struggling to talk about their feelings, a number can help them start.
Together with mental health charity Talk Club, NIVEA MEN created ‘Strength in Numbers’ – a campaign that used content across digital, social and traditional media to champion a simple question ‘How are you? Out of 10?’ to help men and boys of all ages across the UK start talking more regularly about their mental health as part of a healthy mental fitness routine.
