Search volume showdown: The rise and fall of UK construction giants

These charts show the dirt on UK construction company searches over the past four years:

What are people searching for? Jobs, jobs, jobs!

Turns out, a big chunk of construction company searches are for jobs. Take Balfour Beatty, for example. Their search terms are dominated by job seekers.

Next up: We’ll dig into what people are searching for when it comes to Balfour Beatty.

Job seekers on the hunt! How construction firms can win

France

Vinci, France’s construction kingpin, grabs the most searches (60-75,000 monthly), but their dominance is slipping (share of search down from 43% to 32%). Interestingly, Vinci gets a summer bump in July and August – maybe people are planning renovations during holidays?

Seasonal shifts: While construction searches overall aren’t super seasonal in France, most companies see a small uptick in January. Perhaps New Year’s resolutions include fixing up the house?

Germany

Strabag, Germany’s construction giant (even though their HQ is in Austria!), grabs 25-35,000 searches monthly and holds a steady share (23-31% over the past four years).

But here’s the real kicker: construction company searches in Germany have been on a steady rise since 2020! Looks like Germans are turning to the internet for their building needs.

Italy

Saipem, Italy’s construction champ, pulls in 20-50,000 monthly searches, but their search share is holding steady (with a couple of news blips in 2022).

WeBuild soars! Here’s the real story: WeBuild has tripled their search volume in just three years, reaching 33,000 monthly searches. Their share of search has skyrocketed too, jumping from 6% to 35% in just two years. This meteoric rise seems to be at the expense of smaller players in the sector. Looks like WeBuild is becoming a household name in Italian construction.

Spain

ACS, Spain’s construction giant, used to pull in 15-35,000 monthly searches, but their grip is weakening (share of search down from 25% to 12%).

Ferrovial fiasco: Remember when Ferrovial announced an HQ move to the Netherlands? Search exploded to 368,000 in March 2023 – talk about a newsworth spike!

Construction Company Searching Across Markets

These construction titans operate internationally, but guess what? People search for them mostly in their home turf.

Here’s a breakdown of search volume over the past four years for the top construction companies in the five biggest European markets. Get ready to see who reigns supreme in each country!

Forget global domination – construction companies get most of their search love in their home countries. Take Balfour Beatty, the UK’s kingpin: searches are almost all UK-based. Same goes for Vinci in France, Strabag in Germany and the champions in Italy and Spain. Seems like people search for builders they can trust nearby.

Topics

Here we reveal global search trends for some of the key trending topics in the construction sector.

The first chart shows global monthly search volume trends for various construction sector topics over the last four years:

Green construction

Sustainability is becoming a hot topic in construction. Searches for “sustainable construction” are on the rise, with people focussing on eco-friendly materials and processes to minimise environmental impact.

The green revolution in concrete: This chart shows a surge in searches for “green concrete” and “low carbon concrete” over the past four years. Looks like builders are going green, one foundation at a time.

Living building

Forget bricks and mortar – the future of construction is alive! Living building materials are the hottest trend, using natural elements and even living organisms to create sustainable structures. Think buildings that heal themselves and breathe fresh air.
