The 24th of October saw the launch of Tech Scotland Advocates, the 4th of its kind in the UK joining Tech London Advocates, Tech Belfast Advocates and Tech North Advocates.

Part of the Global Tech Advocates network, Tech Scotland Advocates will be run by volunteers and championing Scotland’s position as an internationally significant tech hub, aiming to attract more talent and investment. The network is led by Mia Dowman and Garry Bernstein.

Global Tech Advocates was founded by Russ Shaw who joined us at Caledonian University for the launch event. He originally founded Tech London Advocates because “tech had been good” to him throughout his career. He believes in using “the collective power of our voices” for the greater good. There are now 10,000 people in the global network. Russ observed that there is great stuff happening in Scotland but the not enough people know about it.

Much of what was said in the evening resonated with BIMA and our ambitions and strategy for the UK digital community and we look forward to seeing how we can support each other going ahead.

The evening was closed by an inspiring talk from Corinne Hutton of charity Finding your Feet. If there was ever a strong call to action to put tech to use for the greater good – creating super humans – this was it. Find out more here.
