BenchPress Report 2017 shows optimism among UK agencies despite Brexit uncertainty

23 Mar 2017

The Wow Company has today released it’s annual agency report, the BenchPress 2017.

Digging into the state of play within the digital industry and a week before Article 50 is actioned 29 March, naturally Brexit was a key theme this year.

Surveying 471 British agencies in the creative, digital, media and marketing sectors, the BenchPress Report highlights the key statistics and trends – now in it’s 6th year.

Brexit’s impact on the agency landscape

Interestingly, 84% of agency owners surveyed admitted opposing the UK’s impending departure from the European Union, however the report shows that agencies are still forecasting growth across the country.

Despite an overwhelming majority of agency owners showing a preference to remain part of the single European market, more than half (52%) have yet to notice any knock-on effect on their businesses following last year’s referendum.

Of the agencies that expect to increase turnover in the face of wider economic uncertainty, a third are targeting growth in excess of 26% – and almost two thirds expect to increase revenues by 11% at the very least in 2017.

Good news for the UK’s digital jobs market?

The optimism surrounding those surveyed suggests the digital and creative industry will help bolster the UK jobs market, with two thirds of participating agencies stating their intention to recruit this year, strengthening there workforce by an average of 26%.

Account Management and Creative/Design roles came up on the top of roles in most need to filling, with Development rolls coming in close behind, a slight shift from our Talent Report 2016, produced in partnership with SapientRazorfish.
