As a shadow juror, it was really interesting to see the way things were judged. Certain aspects mattered more than others, and the judges were all experienced and very sharp when it came to spotting any holes. I absolutely loved being a part of this. Ade Chong, Shadow Jury
This years BIMA Awards judges weren’t alone…
Wednesday 11 July was BIMA Awards judging day, when leaders of the digital industry descended on Atos HQ to turn a daunting mountain of impressive entries into one exceptional shortlist.
But how do you become a judge? If you’re still creating the path for your digital career, how can you even see the point at which someone might ask you to judge others – and would you know what to do if they did?
No one ever taught our judges to judge – it’s a role that has come with experience and reputation. But every one of them would have valued some insight into the experience before they were thrown in at the deep end.
That’s the reason for the BIMA Awards Shadow Jury, an initiative we first launched in 2016 in association with Creative Equals. We’ve given a pool of talented creative women the chance to shadow some of the leading senior digital thinkers and leaders in the UK.
Throughout the day our ‘jurors of the future’ were able to gain valuable insights into how work is judged, experience a jury room in action and see how their scores for the work compare.
Holly Hall, MD of BIMA said, ‘The BIMA Awards are all about celebrating the best of the digital industry, but we believe they can do more than celebrate today’s talent; they should inspire the next generation too. That’s why, in collaboration with Creative Equals, we are once again inviting our shadow jury to take part in judging day, and showing our commitment to diversity in digital.”
