Boyd Digital have sponsored Scottish wrestling standout Cameron Nicol ahead of his Commonwealth Games debut.
The Scot, who began wrestling at 24, has held both Scottish and British titles in the past and will look to make a statement on an international scene.
Nicol said on the deal: “Sponsorship is extremely important to allow athletes to train full time and compete against other countries which have funding in place to allow full time training.”
He adds: “Training has been intense but enjoyable. I’ve had a great experience doing training camps in Italy and Madrid in preparation.
“I am proud to be able to compete at the commonwealth games which is the highest level you can compete in wrestling for Scotland.”
Boyd Digital Managing Director Gant Ruxton – a keen grappler himself – has a successful track record in spotting talent.
This comes on the back of an explosive weekend when Boyd Digital athlete Reece McEwan – who is a training partner of Nicol – took home a decisive win at leading European MMA promotion Cage Warriors.
He beat English standout Kingsley Crawford by unanimous decision, taking his professional record to 5-1
Nicol is also on a hot streak, having earned Silver in last month’s United World Wrestling tournament in Italy while representing team GB.
Boyd Digital wish Cameron the best in Birmingham, where he will compete in the 97kg wrestling category at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
