Digital Day: it’s how we’re helping to plug the digital skills gap

To choose a digital career, first you have to know it exists. That’s why Digital Day is so important. It’s the point at which education and industry come together to show just what digital’s all about, often for the first time in a student’s life. And its effect can be incredibly powerful, as the stats and reactions from this year’s Digital Day demonstrate…

140 schools, 10,000+ students, 102 companies

The conversation #DigitalDay21:

Digital Day generated 2,398,122 impressions on Twitter. Don’t worry, we’re not about to show you them all, but here’s just a flavour of the tweets and images from schools and students:

– Super proud of our students @poole_high Huge thanks to @mattdesmier & team @BeepDIgital who supported our @BIMA #DigitalDay21 and kindly shared their own insights and experience of #careers in their industry followed by many questions from our students. A fab day enjoyed by all.

– We’re making some noise for @BIMA’s #DigitalDay21! A huge thank you to Bellshill Academy for getting involved today! @BellshillW @dept_art

– We had a fantastic day @clydebankhigh for @BIMA #DigitalDay21. The students came up with some really innovative ideas to encourage people to think about how they can reduce their carbon footprint and the presentations were well executed and informative!

And from agencies:

– It’s BIMA Digital Day today! Young people across the UK will get a real insight into a digital career. We’ll be helping students consider technology and digital solutions that bring awareness to our environmental footprint. Proud to be supporting @BIMA #DigitalDay21@wwf_uk

– Stu and Rob from @DeloitteDigitalUK tell us about their roles in the Digital Sector and share their own personal career paths before revealing this year’s #DigitalDay21 challenge

– We’ve been taking part in @BIMA Digital Day since 2013. We love helping young people solve challenges, start thinking about career paths and get excited about the world of tech and digital. We can’t wait to see what the students come up with at tomorrow’s event! #DigitalDay21

The thank-yous

Digital Day is a BIG undertaking. It simply can’t happen without our Digital Day sponsors, who this year were global software consultancy EPAM, supported by WWF.

It can’t happen without lots of eager and willing schools and students.

And it can’t happen without the digital professionals who give up their time and make a bigger difference than they might ever realise.

So to all of you, from everyone at BIMA, a massive thank you.

Next year, we’ll be doing it all again, and once again we’re expecting it to be bigger than ever. That means we’ll need more digital professionals than ever too.

If you loved the experience this year, please, could we ask that you sign up to take part again next year? We promise that, once you have, we won’t bother you about Digital Day until much nearer the time.

Please sign up here.

And thanks again.
