Unconscious bias is still a problem in recruitment. Certain types of personal data on a CV can detrimentally affect a candidate’s
chances of making it to interview. We wanted to do something practical to help make recruitment fairer. So we created a tool
for our own recruiters to use that automatically strips out personal data from a CV and then reformats it so it’s still easy and
pleasant to read. This is normally a laborious process that takes recruiters hours. The AnonCV tool is currently saving them lots
of time, time they can use to read more CVs and therefore widen the hiring pool.
However, we were not content to stop there. We felt the issue of unconscious bias in recruitment was so important that we
decided to make it possible for everyone to use the AnonCV tool for free, even our rival companies. To help them do this we
also created a website which housed all sorts of useful information about the subject matter and the tool, including a link to
the open source code on GitHub. A hard-hitting ad campaign on LinkedIn, targeted at recruiters, raised awareness of the tool
and drove traffic to the site.
