In the run-up to BIMA100 awards of 2021, we decided to have a conversation with some of the judges of this year’s nominees about what they think of the array of talent that we are showcasing this time around.

Shannie is judging this year’s  Challengers and New Thinkers category.

What is your favourite part of being a judge for BIMA 100?

Meeting and hearing all the other judges. It’s cool to listen to each other and see how we are aligned in our thinking.

What did you find most inspiring about judging this year’s BIMA 100 entries?

I think the bravery around shouting about yourself. I think that’s really good. I love that we are promoting celebration of self.

Do you see any similarities amongst this year’s entries?

Not much if i’m honest, I think there was a common thread of adaptation during covid but everyone was very different.

What is an important message or lesson that could be taken from BIMA 100?

I just think you never know until you try, I judged a new category but 3 years ago I was also a BIMA 100 it just shows that anything is possible.

Did anything interest you or surprise you about this year’s entries?

I really think that the category i was chosen to judge was all about innovation and challengers, I think I just wanted to see more- and hoped to see more people take a chance and apply.

Particularly in light of the current situation, why does the BIMA 100 matter?

It matters because brilliant people deserve celebration and I think this shows and empowers people no matter how small or big.
