In the first of BIMA and Microsoft’s joint events, Microsoft’s Head of Technology James Akrigg and a panel of experts explored the latest applications for – and the future of – data.
Today’s Breakfast Briefing at The Club at The Ivy was a milestone for BIMA. In addition to offering a roughly 50/50 split of BIMA members and new attendees a rich insight into current data issues, this was also the first demonstration of the value of BIMA’s strategic partnership with Microsoft.
In a keynote speech, Microsoft’s James Akrigg explored how to realise and unlock the true value of data, and how to turn visible costs into visible value. He looked at new forms of emergent data and considered what the future of information storage and retrieval – such as quantum computing – might look like.
Moderated by DigitasLBi’s Kate Johnson, our expert panel then gave their take on current and future data issues.
Christina Rak, Analytics Director at Huge; Gary Arnold, Group Technology Director at Occam DM; and Jesús Rogel-Salazar, AKQA’s Principal Data Scientist AKQA joined James to explore issues including:
• How we use data to support user experiences
• How we make data relevant to senior stakeholders
• What distinguishes a mature data driven business from an immature one; and
• The skills needed to access the true value of data
As ever, our Breakfast Briefing attendees had plenty to say, probing the panel for their thoughts on topics including:
• The impact of blockchain
• Autonomous vehicle mapping
• Establishing data value to overcome cost objections
• Real time data
If you missed it, you can catch up here. And if you haven’t already registered, the next BIMA Breakfast Briefing (Building Strategic Partnerships in Digital & Technology) is in Manchester on 6 March.
