RCA Teaching Spatial Design Education Course

Posted by Royal College of Art – Executive Education

Teaching Spatial Design is a creative education course that provides an intensive introduction to the pedagogical principles and practices of spatial design subjects such as architecture, interiors and urbanism. Through a balanced approach of theory and hands-on practice, participants will engage directly with leading academics to share ideas, develop skills and build networks.

This short course is designed for early-career practitioners who are interested in teaching as part of a portfolio career, and mid-career practitioners who want to review and renew their creative education practice. It is a collaboration between the RCA’s School of Architecture and Creative Education MEd department. It has been developed by:

  • Gem Barton, an award-winning educator and Reader in Design Pedagogy in the School of Architecture, Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, National Teaching Fellow and Senior Tutor for Interior Design MA. Gem leads the superFUTURES platform at the RCA.
  • Sandra Denicke-Polcher, Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, National Teaching Fellow and Associate Dean (Education) in the RCA School of Architecture.
  • Dr Chris Mitchell, Programme Lead of the MEd Creative Education, Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, SEDA Fellow, Co-chair of the SEDA Papers Committee and Deputy Director of Academic Development.
  • Elise Ruffell, Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, Co-lead PG Cert in Creative Education, and Tutor MEd Creative Education.
